Latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip as Ivan Toney’s future at Brentford amid links to Old Trafford continues to generate headlines

Ivan Toney has seemingly got several clubs interested in his signature amid links to Manchester United.

Toney has been credited as a potential target for United on the transfer rumour mill throughout the summer. The Brentford striker has missed the club’s opening two matches of the Premier League season amid speculation surrounding his future.

United have already signed Joshua Zirkzee this summer to strengthen their striker options. Zirkzee will compete with Rasmus Hojlund for the centre forward role at Old Trafford this season, but it has not stopped links swirling that Toney could still be a target for United.

The latest report from The Telegraph, though, claims that Chelsea have joined the race to sign Toney in the final days of the transfer window. The article states that the Stamford Bridge club are showing an interest in completing a £50million deal to sign Toney before the window closes on Friday.

This latest twist comes with Toney already having agreed to a move to the Saudi Pro League with Al Ahli. Chelsea are reported to be making a late move to try and convince the England international to remain in the Premier League, but will not be able to match the salary package offered by the club from Saudi Arabia.

United have been linked with a move for Toney all summer, but now that Erik ten Hag has Zirkzee and Hojlund in his squad it remains to be seen if signing another striker is a priority. Brentford boss Thomas Frank has frequently been asked about Toney’s future in recent days, with the latest update coming at the weekend.

“Very good question,” Frank told reporters on Sunday when asked if Toney was set to leave Brentford. “I actually haven’t asked about that in the last two or three days, so I don’t know actually.

“He trained well all week with a good attitude.”
