Rangers want to sign Pyramids FC wingers Ibrahim Adel before the close of the transfer window, according to Mohamed El Gazar.
The Al Watan journalist reported via X on 25 August that the Light Blues are after the Egyptian winger in the wake of his “brilliance” at the Olympics.
The 23-year-old started every game as his country made it to the semi-finals, scoring three times, including a late equaliser in the quarter final against Paraguay.
Rangers were also interested in the attacker last summer and held talks over a move, but failed to get a deal done [TEAMtalk, 10 September] for the wide man who has scored 27 Egyptian Premier League goals over the past four seasons.
Philippe Clement wants Rangers winger after Vaclav Cerny deal
Rabbi Matondo scored twice in the 6-0 win over Ross County at the weekend but has been heavily linked to an exit to Blackburn Rovers [Scottish Sun, 24 August].
Philippe Clement has already signed two wingers this summer in the form of Wolfsburg loanee Vaclav Cerny and the returning Oscar Cortes, so the move for another might suggest Matondo is set to depart.
His wages are considered huge for the Scottish Premiership by Ibrox News pundit Derek Ferguson, and although Clement predicted the Welshman would stay without a big offer coming in that may have been a negotiating ploy [Sky Sports, 24 August].
If there was interest from Ibrox a year ago before the Belgian replaced Michael Beale it may be that this is a target suggested to him by the club.
A striker might be a bigger priority if Matondo doesn’t leave, while another centre-back is needed now that Ben Davies has gone on loan to Birmingham City.
And a senior midfield option continues to evade the Gers despite links to the likes of Joan Jordan and Norwich City captain Kenny McLean.
