Rangers boss Philippe Clement has hinted that Rabbi Matondo will be “staying put” beyond the transfer deadline, according to the Daily Record.

The outlet reported on its website on Monday (26 August) that the Belgian suggested any last-minute exits would come from players left out of the matchday squad for the win over Ross County at Hampden Park.

That means that both Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi could still depart Glasgow before the 30 August deadline after Ben Davies’ loan move to Birmingham City was confirmed by both clubs.

Matondo has been linked with a move away from Scotland this summer with reports suggesting both Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers are interested in securing his services [Daily Record, 22 August].

Will Rabbi Matondo exit Rangers amid Leeds United transfer rumours?

While things can always change quickly at this stage of the transfer window, Clement has seemingly made it clear that he won’t be willing to allow Matondo to leave Rangers before the transfer window slams shut.

The winger hasn’t ever been the most consistent of performers at Ibrox, but his display in the 6-0 thrashing of Ross County showed just how good he can be when fully fit and firing.

The Welsh international spent the clash toying with the Ross County backline and while Cyriel Dessers also deserved plenty of credit, Matondo felt like a new signing as he added a different dimension to the Gers’ attack.

If a new bid arrived for his services in the final days of the window that could potentially impact Clement’s rebuild this summer, of course, Rangers would then have a big decision to make which could upset a few fans.

Hopefully, the Light Blues won’t have to field any late interest in the attacker and instead, finally find a long-term solution for both Cantwell and Hagi to put this long-running transfer saga to bed.
