Coventry City are reluctant to sell Milan van Ewijk so late in the transfer window amid interest from PSV, as per Marco Timmer.
Coventry City are looking to compete for a spot inside the Championship’s top six this season.
Mark Robins’ side didn’t quite get over the line in the race for a play-off finish last time around, but they did manage to make it to the FA Cup semi final and many would argue they were unfortunate not to go one step further losing on penalties to Manchester United.
The Sky Blues have been on quite an impressive rise since their days in League One and Robins continues to improve his side with shrewd transfer business.
One man who has been linked with a move away is Van Ewijk. The Dutch defender was on the radar of PSV earlier this window, but Coventry City are now likely to keep him at the club due to an unwillingness to sell so late in the window.
A positive sign
The 23-year-old has two goal contributions in three Championship games so far this season.
Van Ewijk is a former Dutch youth international and the right sided defender has been a very good player for Robins since joining the club.
Last season he made 42 second tier outings, scoring twice and assisting five and he had previously spent a long time playing in the Eredivisie.
Despite only being young he racked up over 100 top tier outings in his home country before moving to England, but despite a potential return to the Netherlands being on the cards this summer, it does now look unlikely that will materialise.
The season so far
It is still early days in the 2024/25 campaign, but Coventry City have a mixed start to proceedings.
In a bizarre turn of events they will have played Bristol City and Oxford United twice each in their first five games due to their Carabao Cup draw.
Their only league win of the season to date has come over the U’s and even then it wasn’t too convincing for Robins’ side who waited until late on to seal the three points.
Their Carabao Cup second round game against Oxford United tomorrow provides them with a good opportunity to progress another round, but their focus will not be on that competition this season.
Norwich City awaits the Sky Blues this weekend and they will be hoping to make it three unbeaten after losing on the opening day.
The Canaries were in the top six last season, but are now under new management and much-like Coventry City they are yet to show the best of themselves so far this season.
