‘Wouldn’t be cheap’: Journalist blown away as Sunderland heavily linked with ‘seriously good’ target man

Sunderland appear to have a few strikers on their radar right now.

Sunderland look as though they could soon end their ongoing striker search this summer.

Kristjaan Speakman vowed to sign a striker this summer and whilst we’re still waiting for one to arrive, it looks as though a few could soon be heading to the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland remain keen on Alexandre Mendy and are tipped to complete that deal after weeks of trying to sign the Caen front-man.

Elsewhere, recent reports claim that Sunderland have an interest in Wilson Isidor at Zenit, though how strong their interest is remains to be seen.

Then on Thursday morning, it was claimed that Red Bull Salzburg striker Roko Simic is in Sunderland to undergo a medical with the Black Cats.

Official confirmation is yet to follow, but the move is yet to be played down either.

Simic, 20, stands at 6ft 3ins and scored five goals in 28 Austrian Bundesliga appearances last time round, as Salzburg lost out on the title to Sturm Graz.

Michel Graham verdict on Roko Simic amid Sunderland medical rumours

It’s claimed that Simic has flown out to Wearside where he awaits the final negotiations of a proposed move from Salzburg to Sunderland, and then a medical.

Born in Italy, but having represented Croatia at various youth levels, Simic began his career with Lokomotiv Zagreb but moved to Austria with Red Bull Salzburg in 2021.

Simic has seven goals in 53 first-team appearances for Salzburg, having won the league title twice with the Austrian giants.

Now, journalist Michael Graham has given his verdict on Roko Simic potentially moving to the Stadium of Light, posting on X:

How much will Roko Simic cost Sunderland

Salzburg don’t sell their players cheap. They’ve made some big sales this summer, and one may stick out to Sunderland and Kristjaan Speakman.

Norwich City reportedly paid £4.5million for Salzburg’s Amankwah Forson this summer, whilst the likes of AC Milan paid £18million for Strahinja Pavlovic.

That Norwich fee may be a good indicator of how much Sunderland would have to pay, or are paying for Simic, who’s valued at £5.1million on Transfermarkt.

So with Sunderland looking as though they may have to pay a few million for Simic, as Graham suggests, it could mean that Simic is the only striker signing at Sunderland this summer.

That is unless the Sunderland owners are banking on a player sale in the final week of the window.
