Leicester City should look to add a ‘Champions League level’ player to their squad before deadline day next week.
New manager Steve Cooper has been working hard behind the scenes to ensure Leicester City are ready to battle in the Premier League in 2024/25.
The Foxes had a rough pre-season with goals and clean sheets hard to come by but their proper campaign started well.
Leicester drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening, getting their campaign off to an unexpectedly positive start.
However, work still needs to be done at the King Power to ensure the Midlands outfit avoid the drop come May of next year.
The main area of concern for Leicester right now is their striker department, especially with Patson Daka set to be out for a few months.
Leicester have been working to try and get a new centre-forward through the door but their efforts so far have all been in vain.
Leicester City must beat Nottingham Forest to transfer target
Adam Hlozek was linked to Leicester recently but he has now completed a move to Hoffenheim.
The Foxes’ move for Wilfried Zaha has hit a snag as well, leaving Cooper with limited forward options heading into the final week of the transfer window.
However, a new name is now said to be of interest to those in a position of power at the King Power.
According to Fox Sports, Leicester have asked about a potential transfer for Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord.
Nottingham Forest are also named as an interested party but Cooper must do everything in his power to sign the Mexican ahead of his Premier League rivals.
Why Leicester City have to beat Nottingham Forest to Santiago Gimenez
Gimenez joined Feyenoord in 2022 and has since established himself as one of the best strikers in the Netherlands.
The 23-year-old has netted 53 goals in 89 games for Feyenoord and has been dubbed a ‘Champions League level player’ by journalist Tom Canton on X/Twitter.
Feyenoord icon Mario Been also called the number nine ‘fantastic’ after a performance last year, as per Goal.
As well as bringing some much-needed goals to Leicester, the arrival of Gimenez would be a big blow to Forest, who are currently relying on 32-year-old Chris Wood to provide the bulk of their goals.
The Mexican is a superb striker and whichever Premier League side wins the race for him will have the edge in the relegation battle this term.
As well as Leicester and Forest, Southampton are likely to be in the relegation scrap in 2024/25, meaning the signing of Gimenez will deal the Saints a big blow.
Southampton are lacking a player anywhere close to Gimenez’s level up top, meaning Leicester should have little issue finishing above him if they win the race for his signature.
