Both tasted defeat on the opening day of the season but Mark Robins’ side bounced back with a win over Bristol City. Marti Cifuentes and co meanwhile fought back to claim a draw against an impressive-looking Sheffield United.
Now though, it is claimed QPR and Coventry City could be set to tussle in the transfer market.
West London Sport writes that both sides are keen on midfielder Nicolas Madsen, who currently plays in Belgium for Jupiler Pro League side KVC Westerlo.
The 24-year-old is open to a move to England, the report adds. It’s the R’s who have made an approach for his signature as Cifuentes targets the signing of at least one more midfielder.
Madsen has two years left on his Westerlo deal having signed from FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2022.

QPR and Coventry City fans can be forgiven if there’s little known about Madsen. However, he could prove to be a really solid addition to one of the Championship duo’s midfield ranks this summer.
The former Danish youth international is a tall player able to operate as a central, defensive or attacking midfielder. That level of versatility and flexibility would make him a valuable player to have in the middle of the park.
After time with Midtjylland and in Holland on loan with Heerenveen, Madsen has become a star in Belgium. He has a goal and an assist to his name in four games so far this season.
Last year was a very impressive one from him, returning 14 goals in 35 games across all competitions.
Midfield options
QPR have brought Jonathan Varane in as another option in the middle of the park and have Sam Field, Jack Colback and Elijah Dixon-Bonner available too. Some more depth wouldn’t go amiss though, with Colback turning 35 in October and Dixon-Bonner’s Championship experience limited.
As for Coventry City, the signing of another midfielder may open the door for a loan exit or two.
Jack Rudoni has signed for the Sky Blues, joining Ben Sheaf, Josh Eccles, Victor Torp and Jamie Allen on the books. Youngsters Kai Andrews and Ryan Howley may well earn chances to catch the eye away from the club with the signing of another midfield option.
Having made an approach though, it seems QPR are the most active in the Madsen fight.
