Abu Kamara hands in City transfer request

The Canaries have no interest in selling the highly-rated 21-year-old, despite Kamara’s camp officially expressing he wants to leave Carrow Road ahead of the August 30 transfer deadline.

BBC Sport reported the news on Tuesday morning, and claim other Championship clubs are monitoring Kamara, who starred on loan in Portsmouth’s League One title triumph last season.

But the Canaries are believed to have no offers on the table at this stage of the transfer window for the attacker, who has been linked with clubs at home and abroad throughout the summer.

The City academy product, who has one year left on his current deal, with a further one year club option, has been limited to two cameos from the bench in the opening Championship games, but head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup rates Kamara.

Recent contract discussions were held with Kamara’s camp, as both the Dane and sporting director, Ben Knapper, view the winger as part of an exciting crop of young talent.

Gabe Forsyth and Brad Hills both penned longer term deals last week. Kamara notched his first senior goal for the club in the recent League Cup win over Stevenage.

“He can definitely contribute,” said the City boss. “Not just with his quick feet up front and his good finishing ability but we also saw with another of the goals in that game how he is improving, in terms of his link up play with other players.

“What we as a coaching team needs to make sure of is that we create a pathway for some of these younger guys, because there’s potential, but we also have to respect that it will not be perfect, and it’ll not be from day one that we can sit back and say, ‘Okay, it was just exactly how we wanted’. There will be ups and downs.”

Pompey chief, John Mousinho, has made little secret of his desire to try and bring Kamara back to the south-coast after his impressive loan stint, but dismissed reports in July a bid was imminent.

Southampton, Hull City, Anderlecht and Celtic have all been touted as potential suitors during the close season.
