HAJI Wright praised Coventry City’s never say die attitude after the Sky Blues secured a last gasp 3-2 victory against Oxford United.
Wright netted an injury time winner after opening the scoring at the Coventry Building Society Arena as the Sky Blues sealed their first win of the season.
And City’s club-record signing is ready to hit the ground running this season following an adjustment period during the previous campaign.
Wright said: “We believe until the very last minute and we get a lot of late goals from that belief and that’s something the gaffer tries to instil in us to believe in our ability and try and play until the last minute.
“We created a lot of really good chances; we just need to work on taking those chances. We create enough to kill the game early and early in the second half we had a lot of chances as well. If we continue on this path and take those chances then games will be a lot easier for us.
“All the players who have come in have done really well and we’re building that connection again that we had last season and once everyone is at 100 per cent and gels together, we will be a team to be reckoned with.
“I don’t think I need the adjustment period I needed last season, I’m ready to go full throttle and attack the season.”
Following an opening day defeat at Stoke City, Coventry responded with a win against newly-promoted Oxford to kickstart their season.
Wright struck six minutes into time added on to settle a thrilling contest after he opened the scoring earlier in the game with Milan van Ewijk also on target at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Oxford twice drew level courtesy of goals from Ciaron Brown and Mark Harris before a late error allowed Wright to win the game for the Sky Blues.
Coventry are next in action away at Bristol City on Saturday, August 24 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Ashton Gate.
