Leicester City now have a free run at signing Leeds United-linked midfielder Oliver Skipp, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper’s print edition reported on 18 August that the Whites have looked at striking a deal for the Tottenham midfielder who has three years to run on his contract in North London.

Ipswich Town were also reportedly said to have bee interested in the 23-year-old but have ended their interest after landing former Leeds man Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City.

As such, the Foxes have been named by the Mirror as the favourites to strike a deal for Skipp, who the Mirror say is valued at around £10million.

Leeds United need reinforcements and fast

The links to Skipp are pretty understandable given the context of what has happened at Elland Road this summer.

Firstly, Spurs and Leeds have been in plenty of contact after Archie Gray was sold to Spurs, largely with an eye on future PSR balance sheets, while Joe Rodon returned to Elland Road on a permanent and separate deal.

Moreover, Skipp has previously played under the guidance of Daniel Farke during a loan spell at Norwich City and given the Whites still need reinforcement in central midfield then you can see where the interest comes from.

It looks as though the riches of the Premier League are going to prevent this from happening, but it does not change the fact that Leeds have to get some business done now having lost Gray, Crysenscio Summerville and Glen Kamara, while Georginio Rutter is almost certain to join Brighton.

It has not been the transfer window anyone envisaged and the club’s hierarchy have to fix it in the next couple of weeks otherwise they risk being undermanned in the Championship this term.
