Sunderland are having no luck in their ongoing striker search.

Sunderland are now entering the final two weeks of the summer transfer window. And still, there’s no new striker to speak of.

Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman runs the risk of yet another transfer window in which the Black Cats haven’t signed a desperately-needed striker.

Regis Le Bris says he’s happy with his current options, but hasn’t shied away from the fact that a new striker signing would be a huge help.

Eliezer Mayenda started vs Cardiff City and whilst he worked hard, he proved that he’s nowhere near the standard needed just yet.

Alarm bells are certainly ringing among fans, who just want to see Speakman put the saga to bed, and sign a striker.

Sunderland remain interest in Alexandre Mendy at Caen, but the Black Cats appear to be unwilling to meet the French outfit’s valuation of the player, thought to be nearer the £4million mark.

This week, Sunderland target Divin Mubama has closed in on a move to Manchester City, and now the Black Cats look set to miss out on another target.

Sunderland discover Will Lankshear fate at Tottenham

Earlier this summer, Sunderland were linked with Will Lankshear.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker has impressed in pre-season, earning himself a long-term deal with the North London club.

But it’s now claimed that Spur boss Ange Postecoglou wants to keep Lankshear in his first-team going into the new season.

Speakman is trying too hard to hit a home run in Sunderland striker search

Speakman looks like he’s trying to find the one perfect striker for Sunderland, and the one signing to end all their attacking woes.

Whilst that should be commended, to a degree, Speakman must now get real, and simply sign a striker or two at the Stadium of Light.

Even signing Lankshear or Mubama earlier in the window; it would’ve alleviated the stress of the striker search now, with nobody in at all.

Mendy still seems like the be all and end all for Speakman this summer and if he does eventually sign, it will be a relief.

But Sunderland don’t look set to budge on that front and neither do Caen.

And the longer that this situation drags on, less and less options become available to Sunderland, like we’ve seen with Mubama and now Lankshear.

That said, Sunderland should keep one eye on Lankshear, who as per Sessions, could still leave on loan this summer.

The search is becoming very worrying for Sunderland.
