Tottenham Hotspur have sorted out their striker position by securing the signature of Dominic Solanke.

At the start of the summer, Spurs were linked to a host of strikers, including Ivan Toney, but Ange Postecoglou opted for the Bournemouth man instead.

From a financial perspective, Daniel Levy is putting his money where his mouth is because, for the second summer running, he is backing his manager, but not everyone is pleased.

Simon Jordan is known to be friends with the marmite-like Tottenham chairman and he regularly speaks about it on talkSPORT.

It needs to be remembered that Tottenham secured the signing of Solanke by paying Bournemouth a club-record fee for the 26-year-old

But one Spurs fan, in particular, was enraged about it all and he confronted Simon Jordan about it.

The supporter told the former Crystal Palace owner ‘you make my blood boil’ after he and presenter Jim White called Levy ‘ambitious’ for spending that type of money and bringing in a 19-goal striker.

But Jordan and White were told that Levy is being ’tight’ and has gone from having England’s number one striker – Harry Kane – to the nation’s fifth-choice, Solanke.

Toney was picked ahead of Solanke for England’s Euro 2024 squad this summer, alongside Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, with Jordan claiming that he has insight as to why Spurs didn’t sign the player, as he told talkSPORT.

The owner-turned-football pundit suggested that the Brentford hitman – who has 12 months remaining on his deal – is requesting too much dough on the other end.

Daniel Levy slammed for signing Dominic Solanke

“You (Jim White) made my blood boil (by saying) that Daniel Levy is being ‘ambitious’ by spending £65 million on the fifth, let’s make it clear, fifth-choice England striker,” said the Tottenham fan.

“We had England’s number one, we have now gone to England’s fifth-choice. I am glad you have Daniel Levy’s mate (Simon Jordan) in the studio with you because he is another one who comes out with ‘oh, the economics of Ivan Toney is the reason why Spurs haven’t gone for him’. Make it clear, just say your mate is tight and he doesn’t want to spend the money.”

Jordan responded: “First and foremost, are there a lot of clubs buying Ivan Toney, at this moment in time? I happen to know the mechanics behind the Ivan Toney deal and the precise requests. Ultimately, I think most football clubs are going to have a reluctance to give Ivan Toney what he wants, so that’s where my position comes from on that.”

Should Tottenham have signed Ivan Toney?

Sources previously told HITC Tottenham’s transfer stance on Toney, as he still hasn’t made a big move despite a lot of noise around him.

Even Arsenal, who he has bigged up in the media, haven’t signed him, although, the summer transfer window is still open.

Perhaps a reason behind it, and the same applies to Tottenham, is that he recently returned from a betting ban and played very little last season scoring four league goals.

That has probably put off interested parties, but Ian Wright admitted he would have signed Solanke for Arsenal after his Spurs move.

It’s going to be interesting to see how those two strikers fair ahead of the new campaign, with Tottenham backed to be ‘dark horses’ for a top-four finish.
