Norwich City will surely welcome AFC Bournemouth’s record breaking transfer

It has been an eventful summer for Norwich City in the transfer window when it comes to their attacking options.

Some potentially key influencers in front of goal have already moved on, with Gabriel Sara heading to Turkey to join Galatasaray, and Adam Idah returning to Celtic on a permanent transfer.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Rowe is yet to make an appearance this season, and is training with the Under 21s side, amid links with the likes of Marseille and Leeds United.

Beyond that, another Norwich City forward who has seen speculation around his future emerge during this transfer window, is Josh Sargent.

Premier League, MLS clubs linked with Canaries forward

Earlier this week, reports suggested that a number of clubs were taking an interest in the American international at Carrow Road.

It was claimed that Premier League side Bournemouth and MLS duo St Louis City and FC Cincinnati have all shown an interest in signing Sargent this summer.

With the American transfer window having closed early on Thursday morning, the possibility of a move back to his home country in the current market has now gone for the 24-year-old.

Of course, the window in England does not close until the end of the month, meaning there is time for a Premier League club such as Bournemouth to make a move for him.

As a result, there is an argument that the latest bit of transfer news around Andoni Iraola’s side, will go down rather well at Norwich City.

Bournemouth closing in on alternative to Norwich City player

The fact that Bournemouth had been showing an interest in Sargent will almost certainly have been a concern for those at Carrow Road.

Earlier this month, the club had sold Dominic Solanke to Tottenham, in a deal reported to be worth up to £65million.

As a result, that will have left the Cherries with both the need and funds to go out and sign another centre-forward such as Sargent.

However, it seems as though they are going in a different direction to the Norwich City man as they look to fill that void at the front of their attack.

According to reports on Thursday, Bournemouth have now agreed to sign Porto striker Evanilson in a club record deal worth £40.2million.

That in turn, ought to see the Cherries end any interest in Sargent for the time being. Having spent that much to sign the Brazilian from Porto, he is surely going to be their first choice this season.

It is therefore hard to imagine that they would want to meet the £20million valuation Norwich have apparently placed on the American, if he is not going to be starting consistently for them.

Indeed, with four years remaining on his contract at Carrow Road, there is no pressure on the Canaries to sell Sargent anytime soon, meaning they can demand that sort of fee for him.

This situation will therefore be a welcome one for Norwich given that, with those aforementioned departures and the uncertainty around Rowe, they can ill afford to lose another forward in Sargent.

That is further enhanced by the fact that the signing of another striker, Rennes’ Bertug Yildirim, now appears to have fallen through for the East Anglian outfit.

Of course, the American enjoyed an excellent campaign for the Canaries despite problems with injury last season.

As a result, there was always a chance he was going to be a key player for them last season, and those departures have now increased the likelihood of that being the case.

That therefore means the fact he is unlikely to be heading for the Vitality Stadium this summer, could be vital for Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side.

So with all that in mind, there does seem to be a good chance that the big money deal for Evanilson that Bournemouth have just completed, will go down very well among those of a Norwich City persuasion too.
