Leeds United are interested in signing Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo, according to Football Scotland.

The online source reported [15 August] that the 23-year-old is expected to be another on the Gers’ list of players to exit Ibrox this summer, alongside Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi.

It is understood that, with Leeds holding a prior interest in the Welshman, Matondo is a legitimate target for the Championship side vying for promotion to the Premier League this summer.

Rabbi Matondo set to switch Rangers for Leeds United?

There will certainly be no tears shed at Ibrox should Matondo leave the Scottish club this summer, with Leeds holding a genuine interest in the forward.

The Wales international has failed to live up to expectations during his two seasons in Scotland, having joined from Bundesliga 2 side Schalke in the summer of 2022.

He has notched just six goals in 62 appearances for the Gers, with many of his cameos coming off the bench, which was the case last term under Philippe Clement’s leadership.

Injuries have also played a major role in his downfall at Ibrox, missing 19 games for club and country, but he has shown his quality in fits and starts during his time at the club.

That was no more evident than when he fired in a beautiful curling effort against Celtic towards the end of last season, coming on as a substitute to help claim something from an Old Firm derby.

He would hope that fans remember him for that moment, but his lack of consistency on the pitch has led to him becoming a forgotten figure on more than one occasion with the Gers.

With Leeds taking an interest in the forward, it would be very unlikely that Clement would want to keep the 62-time appearance maker at the club this summer, and now a perfect chance to cash in has emerged.
