Premier League striker: “I’d rather sign for Blackburn than ‘sad’ Rangers”

Darren Bent would rather play for an English Championship team rather than Rangers.

This has come after the Gers were dumped out of the Champions League in the first qualification round, losing 2-0 to Dynamo Kyiv at Hampden.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 14 August (4:15pm), Andy Goldstein asked the former England and Premier League striker if he would rather play in the Championship or Rangers right now.

He replied: “It would depend on the size of the club in the Championship.

“I would probably go to Blackburn. Any of the big sides in the Championship I would probably go there over Rangers. It is sad to see.”

Darren Bent makes Rangers Championship comparison

Things aren’t to rosey for the Light Blues right now and were compounded by a frustrating defeat in the Champions League on Tuesday (13 August).

Philippe Clement was understandably annoyed after what he saw as Jefte was bizarrely sent off despite making little to no contact with his man.

Eventually, their fate was confirmed as Oleksandr Pikhalyonok and Nazar Voloshyn scored two late goals to boot the Gers out of Europe’s elite competition.

Even with that being the case, they will still feature in the Europa League which will be appealing to potential incoming signings.

It is clear that former Tottenham star Bent doesn’t see it that way suggesting that a move to Blackburn Rovers would be preferred.

Given that the former Premier League champions finished 19th in the English second tier last season, this seems to be an unfair judgement.

The season hasn’t started how Clement would have wanted but comparisons to poor English sides are a slight overreaction.
