TODD CANTWELL FORMAL TRANSFER BID UPDATE EMERGES AT RANGERS

Todd Cantwell is still training with the Rangers B Team amid interest from Turkey but a formal bid has not yet arrived, according to Sky Sports.

The outlet reported via their website on 12 August (7.18pm) that Trabzonspor have shown interest in signing the wantaway midfielder but have not put any money on the table for him.

The Super Lig side have already brought in former Ibrox pair John Lundstram and Borna Barisic this summer and bid for captain James Tavernier.

Philippe Clement revealed on 25 July that Cantwell had twice asked to leave the club [Sky Sports], and confirmed last week that he remains apart from the first-team group.

Philippe Clement has left Todd Cantwell with Rangers B Team

Clement has already made clear that anybody other than Jack Butland is available for the right offer at Ibrox [Rangers Review, 14 July], and confirmed earlier on 12 August the star keeper wants to stay.

But just as no suitable bids have come in for the ever-divisive starting striker Cyriel Dessers, despite widespread interest [Chris Jack, 7 August], there is not a great deal the club can do to move players on if suitors don’t make offers.

Tavernier was reportedly subject to a second, improved bid from Trabzonspor [Rangers Review, 23 July] and yet it is starting to look like he will be in place for a 10th year in Glasgow.

An approach has come in from another Turkish side for Ridvan Yilmaz as Galatasaray look to take him back to his home country [Krampon Sports, 9 August], but unless they meet the asking price it will be another false alarm on the left-back.

Cantwell is also said to have various clubs in England having a look at him as well [Scottish Sun, 22 July] but if all of them have other priorities that ultimately won’t mean much.

Just as the likes of Scott Wright, Kieran Dowell, Tom Lawrence, Ben Davies and Rabbi Matondo are all names the manager would likely be happy to let go he can’t if there aren’t takers.

The issue with Cantwell will become all the more awkward if the deadline passes and he is still a Rangers player considering he has long been suspected of having a difficult relationship with Clement.

Should that happen it would surely make sense to rejoin the squad, but with Ianis Hagi also with the B Team and seemingly unwanted by Clement despite having a desire to stay [Sky Sports, 12 August] it might not be that straightforward.
