Rangers are interested in signing Mahamadou Diarra and have been in contact with his agent already, according to Africa Foot.
The outlet reported via their website on 12 August that the Malian striker could leave WSG Tirol in Austria this season and has been receiving requests from all over Europe.
Discussions with the Gers had just taken place in the hours prior to the report emerging, with personal terms, playing time and the project under Philippe Clement on the agenda, as well as a signing bonus.
The striker scored four times for the Austrian Bundesliga side last term, his first campaign in European football.
Philippe Clement chases new Rangers striker
The 20-year-old has been termed a “prodigy” by the Scottish Sun (13 August) having arrived in the Austrian top flight as a teenager and made 23 league and cup appearances last term.
He hasn’t been prolific yet but is evidently considered to have the talent to develop if multiple clubs around Europe are after him.
It looks like the Light Blues are trying to steal in ahead of the transfer deadline to attempt a move, with Clement in need of help up front.
Cyriel Dessers remains the main man in the Light Blues squad, as transfer interest has not materialised into bids on the table [Chris Jack, 7 August], and the signing of Hamza Igamane earlier this summer has yet to have any effect.
The Moroccan youngster could himself grow into an excellent signing but has yet to even be named on the bench through preseason or the first three matches of the campaign, after being kept in one-to-one training until recently amid rumours of an injury [4 Lads Had A Dream, 30 July].
Danilo has been tipped to have a major impact this term [Kris Boyd, 5 July] but he is still not back to full fitness after an injury-hit debut season and Ibrox News pundit Derek Ferguson thinks that will take some time.
The headline goalscorer signing of a Lawrence Shankland or an Albion Rrahmani is looking unlikely given the budget restrictions but it looks like work is under way to add another young talent.
