Brondby are making a major effort to sign Gustavo Puerto after Rangers reportedly bid for him, according to Tipsbladet.

The Danish outlet reported via their website on 12 August that the Light Blues and Anderlecht are believed to have already made offers for the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.

He is in high demand with Bundesliga sides, Blackburn Rovers and PAOK all said to be on his case, and the 21-year-old already has “concrete” offers to consider.

Puerta made 10 appearances last term as Xabi Alonso’s side fell one step short of an historic treble, with their only defeat all season coming in the Europa League final against Atalanta, and is seen as an important part of the plans this term so he won’t be cheap.

Philippe Clement still looks to strengthen Rangers squad

Philippe Clement still has work to do to get his summer overhaul even close to complete before the transfer deadline on 30 August.

He has secured Robin Propper and Vaclav Cerny after announcing he was looking to add experienced options to his youthful early signings [BBC Sport, 29 June].

But it appears that hasn’t ended pursuits for other younger options, with Chelsea talent Leo Castledine another possible signing after an approach was made at Stamford Bridge [Football Scotland, 7 August].

It looks like it will be a tough task to convince Leverkusen to part with Puerta and the amount of other options he will have if he does leave increases the challenge even further.

Connor Barron is said to be experiencing an Aberdeen backlash after his signing [Ryan Jack, 10 August] but he and Mohamed Diomande look like being the regular midfield pairing so far, although they would surely benefit from support behind them.

If Clement could convince the Colombian that role was his then perhaps there is a chance the talented youngster can be brought to Ibrox, after moves for senior midfielders failed.

Either way the Belgian surely needs to get a few more players out the door first so he can bring in vital reinformcents.
