‘Absolute negligence’ – David Edgar issues transfer verdict as Rangers eye Champions League spot

Rangers not signing any players should they qualify for the Champions League would be negligent, believes David Edgar.

The Heart and Hand podcast host took to X on 8 August to reply to a fan amid worries about the club not bringing in new players as they did under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Dutchman managed to get Gers to qualify for the group stages but was not backed by the board in the days that followed.

Edgar wrote: “If we don’t it’s absolute negligence.”

Rangers cannot repeat the transfer mistakes of the past

Gers cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past, particularly in terms of their transfer strategy.

Under van Bronckhorst, the club managed to qualify for the Champions League group stages, but the board failed to adequately back the manager in the transfer market and this lack of support was a significant factor in the Dutchman’s eventual departure.

Philippe Clement has already shown that he can get more out of the current squad than many expected.

However, if Rangers qualify for the Champions League again, it would be negligent not to provide the Belgian with the necessary resources to strengthen the team.

Failure to do so would not only undermine Clement’s ability to compete at the highest level but also send a message to players and potential signings that the club is not serious about competing at the top level.

The Ibrox outfit must learn from their past mistakes and ensure that Clement is properly backed in the transfer market even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
