There’s a new name being linked with Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the new season.

Sheffield Wednesday begin what feels like a new chapter, and a fresh start this weekend.

Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle visit Hillsborough for what is both side’s opening game of the 2024/25 season.

And for Danny Rohl and his new-look Sheffield Wednesday first-team squad, it’s the beginning of pastures new, following what was a challenging 2023/24 season.

The Owls narrowly avoided relegation with a dramatic 20th place finish under their German boss, who’s since signed nine new players at Hillsborough.

On Tuesday, another name was linked with a possible summer switch to S6; Jeremy Livolant.

The French winger is now a free agent after being let go by recently-bankrupt French outfit Bordeaux, with Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City keen on Livolant.

For Rohl though, another winger may not be the priority, as he’s already been told this summer.

Danny Rohl must heed Sheffield Wednesday transfer warning amid Jeremy Livolant link

Sheffield Wednesday’s summer transfer business has been the envy of many.

Owner Dejphon Chansiri has earned praise for backing Rohl, and for changing tack in the transfer market too.

The Owls appear to be focussing on slightly younger players than before, with a mixture of free agents and player signings, and with loan signings expected later in the summer too.

Recently, journalist Dom Howson gave his verdict on Sheffield Wednesday’s summer transfer business and warned the club that they need another striker and another centre-back at the club.

Sheffield Wednesday want to re-sign Ike Ugbo this summer but face fresh competition from Championship rivals Sunderland.

And despite the fact that Di’Shon Bernard signed a new contract last month, Rohl still seems to lack a bit of star quality at centre-back, especially so with Bernard not looking quite match-ready at the moment.

With Howson’s warning in mind, a move for another winger in Livolant doesn’t seem so necessary, especially after the summer arrivals of names like Olaf Kobacki and Jamal Lowe.

Why Sheffield Wednesday should avoid Jeremy Livolant move for the time being

Livolant looks like a decent player. He’s a goal-scoring winger and at 26, he’s perhaps at a good age to arrive in England for the first time, and try his hand in the Championship.

Rohl though already has some good options out wide in Kobacki and Lowe, and Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba.

Gassama and Musaba really progressed last season, especially in the second half of the campaign, and with a season of Championship football under their belt, there’s a sense that the pair could really kick on next season.

So adding another winger to the mix, fighting for competition and potentially keeping Gassama or Musaba out of the side, might not be the best thing for the Owls pair’s progression.

The two could become very valuable assets in the years to come, but only if they’re given first-team exposure.

What’s more is that Sheffield Wednesday and Rohl really need a new centre-back and/or striker more than they need a winger, so for now, a move for Livolant shouldn’t be at the top of Wednesday’s agenda.
