Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping to build on last season’s triumph of surviving the drop to League One.

Danny Rohl’s side has massively developed over pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, with nine new arrivals at Hillsborough bolstering his options across the park.

Sheffield Wednesday managed to stay up on the final day of the 2023/24 Championship season as they saw off Sunderland in a trip to the Stadium of Light, and Rohl will be looking for his side to continue what was a brilliant end to the last campaign.

Pre-season has given the German boss a platform for him to get the new recruits up to speed, and with Rohl’s ability to get the best out of his side, there is every chance that Sheffield Wednesday could surprise a few this season.

Following what has been a beneficial pre-season, Opta’s ‘supercomputer’ has predicted how the Owls will fare in the 2024/25 Championship season.

Sheffield Wednesday predicted for mid-table finish

Sheffield Wednesday are expected to build on their 20th place finish last season following the strides they have made off the pitch across the summer.

Per Opta Analyst, the Owls are predicted to finish in 12th position in the 2024/25 Championship season with an average of 61.6 points, which was worked out from 10,000 simulations of the league, seeing Sheffield Wednesday sandwiched between Swansea City and Stoke City in 11th and 13th respectively.

The predictions see Sheffield Wednesday just three places behind Steel City counterparts Sheffield United following their relegation from the Premier League.

Sheffield Wednesday prediction suggests hope of play-offs

With the supercomputer working out its prediction based on 10,000 simulations, it certainly will have had Sheffield Wednesday in-and-around the play-offs on multiple occasions.

There is already a feeling around the camp that the Owls will be a surprise package this season, with the likes of Josh Windass already making bold promotion to the Premier League predictions.

It shows just how far Rohl’s side have come in comparison to Sheffield Wednesday starting out the 2023/24 campaign under Xisco Munoz, with there being so much optimism ahead of the new season as a result of Rohl being able to implement his philosophy on his own signings, as well as Dejphon Chansiri clearly backing the boss during the window.

It will be a brilliant fate for Rohl to lead the side to a mid-table finish, however there should certainly not be any calls ruling out Sheffield Wednesday doing the incredible this season and going a step or two further.
