Excel: Leeds want to do deal for less than £10m for ‘exciting’ player

Leeds United are looking to make two or three signings before the deadline of the transfer window and having sold Crysencio Summerville, The Whites have cash to spend.

Summerville’s move to West Ham has set The Hammers back an initial fee of £25m, with Leeds now raking in as much as £80m this summer. Half of that was Archie Gray’s move to Tottenham Hotspur.

But it does mean Leeds have a couple of holes in the squad that require filling. A new full-back, a new midfielder and certainly, a replacement for a player that laid on 31 goals and assists during 2023-24.

One player Leeds have been linked with is Norwich City gem Jonathan Rowe, with the England youth star shining last season. He scored 12 goals and laid on two more in his 35 games for Daniel Farke’s old side.

Bailey gives us the latest on Leeds move for Jonathan Rowe

Reports emerged on Monday morning that Leeds were plotting an initial offer of £7m to land Rowe, but that it was always unlikely Norwich would be willing to accept such a low offer for the versatile player.

Norwich had needed to sell a player, but Gabriel Sara joined Galatasaray for a fee believed to be north of £20m. Of course, Brazilian ace Sara had also been linked with a move to Elland Road in the last few weeks.

Transfer expert Bailey says Rowe’s name came up in talks between Leeds and Norwich for Sara. Bailey also told LeedsUnited.News that Leeds want to do a deal for below £10m and Norwich are willing to cash in.

“Leeds are talking to Norwich about Rowe, came up in Sara talks. I’m told they want him for less than £10m overall and it seems they [Norwich] are willing to let him go,” Bailey said about “exciting” Rowe.

Rowe would be a sensational signing for Leeds this summer

Especially, at £10m. It is likely that Sara’s move to Galatasaray in a deal that sees The Canaries double their outlay on the Brazilian has put Norwich in a stronger position on the negotiating table for others.

Rowe is a homegrown talent and you would imagine Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side will be reluctant to let him go. However, if he is available in a deal for less than £10m this summer, Leeds simply have to move.

He might not be the perfect addition right now in terms of quality, but his enormous potential makes him a brilliant signing. Certainly, given he can play in a number of positions where Leeds require signings.
