John Fleck dreams of returning to Rangers after leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of the season.

The former Scotland international featured for the Light Blues between 2007 and 2012 and is now eyeing a potential Ibrox return with the Daily Record reporting how he’s been training at Auchenhowie with the club.

The 32-year-old joined Blackburn in the January transfer window but was released after just half a season with the Championship side.

He has now spoken out on his future and the potential of joining the Gers on a free transfer. He said: “Do I have unfinished business with the club? That’s not for me to say.

“My aim now is to carve out something special in my career and there are options, I have offers in Europe and England and I now need to find the right club to kick things on,” said Fleck, as quoted by the Daily Record on Saturday (3 August).

“I’ve always said it would be a dream of mine to come back to Rangers and nothing changes in that regard. I said that If that chance came further down the line to come back then I’d love it to be honest. Who wouldn’t? This is Glasgow Rangers we are talking about, a club which is engrained in my heart.”

John Fleck wants to join Rangers

The current free agent was one of the shining lights at Sheffield United upon their return to the Premier League back in 2019.

He spent seven and a half seasons with the Blades where he featured in the top and second tier, performing well in both.

Last campaign the Scot opted to join Blackburn but failed to make an impact with injury hampering him to just one appearance.

Now he is without a club and a return to Ibrox could be possible although it is unclear how well-received this would be by fans.

Given the situation that Philippe Clement’s side is in right now, there has been a general lack of top-level transfers to get excited about.

Although Connor Barron has added to the midfield conversation, adding someone with the experience of Fleck alongside him could be positive.

There are pros and cons to every signing and there would be plenty of conversation around resigning the 32-year-old.
