Leicester City’s breakthrough in looking to bring a winger to the King Power could set the wheels in motion for a departure.

The Foxes have finally been able to breakthrough and increase their chances of bringing extra attacking reinforcements to the club ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Matias Soule was initially touted as a solid option on the wing for Steve Cooper’s side, however any deal for the Serie A star broke down after he opted for a move to Roma.

However, Leicester City haven’t rolled over at the sign of defeat, with them targeting alternatives ahead of the new season.

Colombia and Watford winger Yaser Asprilla was targeted by the Foxes, with the Leicester City target now reportedly ‘on his way’ to the King Power to discuss terms over a £21million deal for the attacker.

As a result, one Leicester City winger might be on his way out amid Championship interest.

Potential incoming Yaser Asprilla could spark the departure of Kasey McAteer

With Asprilla looking likely to join up with Leicester City this season, English winger Kasey McAteer could find himself out the exit door amid interest from Championship clubs.

Various clubs in the Championship have reportedly expressed their interest in bringing the winger in on loan.

McAteer played a significant role in Enzo Maresca’s set-up during the 2023/24 Championship campaign, scoring six goals in 23 matches, although his gametime was impacted by various injury issues throughout the season.

However, with the influx of attacking arrivals and Cooper’s desire to bring wingers in, McAteer may not be utilised regularly at Premier League level.

Championship loan could provide Kasey McAteer with perfect Leicester City stepping-stone

Cooper’s short term plans for McAteer may be fairly limited at this moment, with there being no guarantee that the 22-year-old would be able to comfortably step up to Premier League level football.

That isn’t to say that the right-winger could play and make a crucial impact in a seasons time, and Cooper will likely have all the confidence in McAteer to make a big difference, whether Leicester City find themselves in the Premier League or Championship, providing that he has a consistent Championship season under his belt.McAteer more than showed his qualities throughout the 2023/24 Championship campaign, which shows that he has the ability to repeat that in hopefully more appearances across the season.

It may from his point of view be an opportunity of Premier League football taken away, however it could really kick-start his career at the top level, and help him prove that he deserves to be a key part of Leicester City from next season onwards.
