LEICESTER CITY NOW BATTLING UCL SIDE IN PURSUIT OF 6-CAP COLOMBIAN INTERNATIONAL – JOURNALIST

Leicester City have looked into a deal for a Colombian winger as a Matias Soule alternative.

Although pre-season hasn’t gone entirely according to plan so far for Steve Cooper’s side, the former Nottingham Forest boss still remains adamant in bringing in recruits.

The Foxes were in ‘pole-position’ to bring Celtic star Matt O’Riley to the King Power Stadium, however talk on the Danish international’s future has gone quiet, with Atalanta battling it out for the midfielder’s signature.

Leicester City also endured a lengthy pursuit for Argentinian winger Matias Soule, however no deal was able to come to fruition after the youngster opted for a move to Serie A side Roma from Juventus.

Despite the unfortunate conclusion of the Soule saga, Cooper is still looking to bolster his wide attacking options this summer, even though the position has been improved by the signings of Issahaku Fatawu and Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

A South American star has been identified by Cooper as one to keep an eye on as they battle a Champions League side for his signature.

Leicester City ‘enters the race’ for Colombia international Yaser Asprilla

Leicester City have reportedly targeted a deal for Colombia international and Watford winger Yaser Asprilla, per Guillermo Arango on X.

The Foxes will reportedly battle it out with Champions League side Porto, whilst Ligue 1 outfit Rennes have also shown interest in signing the attacker.

Asprilla has six caps at international level, in which he has bagged two goals, despite being just 20-years-old.

The bulk of the wingers’ experience comes from the Championship, where he has just finished a successful campaign in which he achieved 13 goal contributions from out wide in 44 games.

Are Leicester City in a position to be battling Champions League clubs for signings

Leicester City have without a doubt aimed for the stars in their recent transfer efforts, from Soule to O’Riley.

However, it continues to be a case of young talents opting for a side playing European football over a chance to stake their claim in the Premier League with Leicester City.

Cooper understandably wants to bring young European talent through the doors, however he is arguably being blindsided by potential signings that will have many suitors from various European sides.

It certainly wouldn’t hinder Cooper’s transfer efforts in obtaining more experienced players ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season, someone who is of a similar mould to the likes of Jamie Vardy and Conor Coady when it comes to leadership and Premier League experience.

In any other instance, Leicester City’s targets would make perfect sense and could easily offer a lot to a Premier League side, however the Foxes need to match their ambitions with their expectations and focus more on the short-term rebuild and assuring the club’s Premier League position.
