NORWICH CITY STANCE ON GABRIEL SARA EXIT SHARED AS LEEDS UNITED TABLE ‘CHEEKY’ TRANSFER OFFER

Norwich City will “not entertain” the opening offer for Gabriel Sara from Leeds United as Daniel Farke looks for a Crysencio Summerville “replacement”, according to Carlton Palmer.

The Whites have reportedly made a £5million bid for the winger, but the Canaries are understood to be holding out for a fee in the region of £13.9million before selling their star man [Özgür Sancar, 31 July].

Although Football League World pundit Palmer believes Norwich will be reluctant to sell Sara so close to the start of the season, he thinks Farke’s side could still return with an improved offer.

Speaking to Football League World (2 August) he said: “Leeds United, being very close to completing Summerville’s departure to West Ham means they will be looking for replacements.

“Daniel Farke’s been looking at his former club, Norwich City, and it is believed they have made an offer for Gabriel Sara. It’s believed to be a bit of a cheeky offer in the region of about £5m. Norwich City will not entertain that.

“It’s going to take a bigger offer than that to convince the Canaries to let the 25-year-old go. You would think, given that Norwich City paid £10million for him in 2022, they will be looking in the region of £20million.

“It’s believed that Norwich will sell one of their big names this season, such as Jonathan Rowe and Josh Sargent, who performed well last season, but they don’t want to get rid of Sara.

“They may go back with an improved offer, but it may still be nowhere near the £20 million Norwich are asking for. If they don’t go in with an improved offer of at least £10 million, I think they will turn their attention elsewhere.”

Will Gabriel Sara exit Norwich City amid Leeds United transfer rumours?

Leeds United simply have to bolster their wide options between now and the start of the season as Summerville closes in on a move away from Elland Road only days before the new campaign gets underway.

Sara fits the profile of what Farke looks for in a winger, but his price tag is very high for a player in the Championship. The Whites have money to spend, but they won’t want to splurge their entire budget on one player.

There will almost certainly be room to negotiate so the two parties can reach an agreement. If the 49ers are serious about getting this side back to the Premier League, they may have to start spending some proper money.

Hopefully, a deal can be struck somewhere in the region of £10million, but if Norwich continue to demand £20million, it may be best for the Whites to turn their attention to alternative targets.
