Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson has stated that he believes Lawrence Shankland will be a Rangers player by 1 September.

The Hearts striker has been consistently linked with a move to Ibrox throughout the summer window and has been touted as the player that the Gers need the most by some.

Speaking on Record Sport’s hotline (29 July), Jackson reiterated that the Gers need a goalscorer and that he believes that he’ll be representing the Glasgow-based outfit in 2024/25.

“I do think he will be (a Rangers player by 1 September),” Jackson said.

“Obviously a lot will depend on the talks that are going on today at Ibrox, a lot will depend on whether Philippe Clement decides that he can put that amount of money into one transfer when there are other things to be looked at.

“I keep coming back to the fact that they are crying out for a goalscorer and Lawrence Shankland is as close as you can get to guaranteed to Scottish Premiership goals scored.

“I think there might be a bit of ‘to-ing and froing’ and I’m sure there will be some arguments about it but yes, I think Rangers will make a bid and at that point, it becomes a negotiation and if Shankland wants it to happen, then he can influence that as well.”

Rangers ready to seal Lawrence Shankland transfer

There’s no doubt that the Gers will want to try and overcome their arch-rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Since the departure of Steven Gerrard, the club hasn’t shown as much fight in the league and Clement has failed to win against the club during his time as manager.

Last term Cyriel Dessers was in good form and managed to bag 22 goals but his inconsistency plagued the Glasgow-based club’s season and turned fans against him, but he has still stated he’d like to stay [Daily Record, 29 July].

The Scotland international bagged 31 goals across all competitions with 21 coming in Scotland’s top flight.

This consistent goal-scoring across the board is exactly what the Gers need to push themselves closer to the title.

However, the fact that his contract runs out at the end of the 2024/25 season and the fact that Hearts still want somewhere in the region of £3million [David Edgar, 26 July] to pry the 28-year-old away, is causing a bit of a problem for the Gers, especially since they now need to fund any future additions.
