SUNDERLAND FANS WOWED BY ‘INTELLIGENT’ MIDFIELDER AFTER BLACKPOOL FRIENDLY WIN

The Sunderland midfielder shone for Regis Le Bris’ side as they won 1-0 away at Blackpool during pre-season.

Sunderland managed to grab a late 1-0 victory against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road in their recent pre-season standoff, with winger Jack Clarke scoring the decisive goal to give the Black Cats a deserved victory.

It’s clear that Regis Le Bris is contributing to get his ideas across to his squad, and is shaping it by getting rid of deadwood, including the likes of Luis Hemir, who was given game time as part of the under 23’s instead.

Various Sunderland fans were echoing similar thoughts on what the game suggested, including the ongoing necessity to bring in a striker, with Alexandre Mendy still reportedly close to a deal to join Sunderland.

Additionally, there was plenty of praise for one midfielder who shone for Sunderland and offered something that was near-enough non-existent in the 2023/24 Championship campaign.

Sunderland fans react to Alan Browne’s performance vs Blackpool

Alan Browne was one of many Sunderland players to get plaudits after the win against Blackpool.

One Sunderland fan wrote on X: “Big fan of Browne’s know-how. Adopts clever positions and will drop into right-back when Hume goes forward. Very intelligent and experienced.”

Many recognised the revolutionary impact in the centre-of-the park and how Le Bris’ tactics were taking shape, as one fan pasted: “Pressing better and Browne has been very good . Looks like RLB is starting to get his ideas across.”

Signs of improvement throughout the ranks have been fast-tracked by Browne, as another fan wrote: “You can see the improvement week on week under Le Bris. Browne has been excellent in this role and is linking up really well.”

The former Preston North End captain was not alone in the group of midfielders getting praise, as one fan stated: “Browne and Neil our best players first half.”

Alan Browne’s Championship experience will take Sunderland far

It’s clear that Kristjaan Speakman adding to the young and inexperienced side with Championship pedigree has worked wonders already, despite just three additions who have played on many occasions at that level.

Browne was likely to be crucial in bringing leadership to the dressing room, as well as being a player who will help the younger ranks in understanding Le Bris’ set-up, and that is exactly what has happened so far.

There was very little sense of direction and leadership last season, with Luke O’Nien being one of the few players that acted as a leader out on the pitch, however that has now been rectified with the signing of Browne.

If heads do begin to drop at any point this season amongst the Sunderland squad, having the likes of Browne will ensure that it isn’t nearly as consequential in comparison to last year.
