Celtic will open new contract talks with left-back Greg Taylor in the coming weeks, sources have told Football Insider.
Celtic regard Taylor, 26, as a key player and are working to extend his time at the club with a new and improved offer.
At the same time, the Celtics are working on bringing in a new left-back to help provide competition for Taylor and cover him if he gets injured or suspended.
The Scottish Premier League Champions have been linked with a move for Wolves full-back and Spain Under-21 international Hugo Bueno.
Football Insider revealed (July 26) that the Premier League club are willing to loan out Bueno so long as he plays regularly.
Celtic want key player Greg Taylor to extend contract
Taylor has been at Celtic since 2019-20 and has gone on to make 175 appearances for the Glasgow giants.
The 26-year-old is currently Celtic’s only first-team left-back, in the last two seasons alone Taylor has played 91 games for the club, further demonstrating just how badly they are in need of left-back cover.
Regardless of who Celtic bring into the club they view Taylor as a key player. The full-back recently helped his side to a 4-3 pre-season victory over Manchester City.
It’s been a relatively quiet window for the champions so far. They’ve managed to secure their Joe Hart replacement in Kasper Schmeichel and fellow goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa.
