Lawrence Shankland to Rangers transfer move unlocked by Sam Lammers exit cash as Hearts brace for bid

The Tynecastle skipper is wanted by Ibrox boss Philippe Clement this summer

Sam Lammers is edging close to a £2.7million move to Twente Enschede – in a deal which could unlock the cash for Rangers’ bid for Lawrence Shankland.

Record Sport revealed on Tuesday that the Hearts skipper is back on the wanted list at Ibrox after a shift in position from Philippe Clement. But the Belgian boss will still need to find around £3m to stand any chance of tempting the Edinburgh club into cashing-in on the talismanic striker. That windfall could be about to drop into Clement’s lap with Dutch frontman Lammers on the verge of returning to his homeland.

The 27-year-old has been told he has no part to play in Clement’s summer rebuild but still has three more years to run on a bumper contract following his arrival from Italian side Atalanta last summer. While Utrecht and NAC Breda have matched the asking price, those moves fell through when it came to matching the player’s wage demands.

But Twente believe they have funds available to lure Lammers back to the Netherlands after setting aside a package of around £1.3m a year to sign Wout Weghorst from Burnley. But it’s understood the Euro 2024 star pulled the plug on discussions in the last week – with Twente’s attention turning to Gers’ Lammers instead.

If a deal can be thrashed out then Clement will look to spend the money raised, with Shankland high on his list of targets despite the gaffer deciding against a move for the Scotland striker in January. Clement is desperate to bring in reinforcements ahead of the Premiership opener against Shankland’s Jambos at Tynecastle next Saturday and he could tie up a loan for Sevilla ace Joan Jordan in the coming days.

It’s believed the La Liga side wants an obligation for Rangers to buy the midfielder for a fee of up to £4m if they agree to a season-long loan. This deal would also require the Light Blues to cover around 60 per cent of the 30-year-old’s salary.

Jordan could be joined by Vaclav Cerny who is also expected to move on loan from Wolfsburg. Meanwhile, James Tavernier, Todd Cantwell and Connor Goldson are exploring options to leave.
