Aston Villa’s busy transfer window continued this week with the addition of Everton’s Amadou Onana.

The Villans have now made eight summer signings as they gear up for their upcoming Champions League campaign.

Amadou Onana follows the likes of Ian Maatsen, Cameron Archer and Jaden Philogene through the doors at Villa Park.

Aston Villa have now spent close to £150million on new signings this summer in a show of faith from their owners.

Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris have owned the club since their takeover in 2018 and they have continued to invest heavily into Villa’s success.

Aston Villa chiefs praised by Darragh MacAnthony

Villa upset the odds to finish inside the top four of the Premier League last season, but their ambitions do not end there.

Their heavy spending this summer suggests they are planning to spring a surprise in Europe and compete with the established elite.

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony praised Villa’s owners for the Amadou Onana deal and suggested they are now one of the best-run clubs in the country.

“I think it’s a good signing,” he said via talkSPORT. “They’re getting a 22-year-old midfielder who has Premier League experience.

“He’s been in relegation battles and been fighting in that league. I think £50million nowadays for a 22-year-old international is a great signing.

“He’s a specimen. There’s a lot of upside, his wages wouldn’t have been crazy coming from Everton. A very sensible signing. Good business.

“I think Villa are probably one of the best-run clubs in the Premier League now, up there with Brighton.”
