Heart and Hand’s David Edgar believes that Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland will be an upgrade on the current options at Rangers.

This comes after the Daily Record reported on 22 July that the 28-year-old’s name returned to Philippe Clement’s shortlist for this summer.

The Belgian preferred other options until a few weeks ago but has made a U-turn and is keen on the Scotland international.

Edgar wrote on X: “Is he better than what we have? Yes. So for that reason I’m in.”

Lawrence Shankland can be the difference maker for Rangers in the final third

With 31 goals in 47 appearances last season, Shankland has proven his ability to find the back of the net consistently, something Gers desperately need after struggling to convert chances into goals last season.

The Scotland striker’s experience and familiarity with the Premiership would allow him to hit the ground running at Ibrox.

He wouldn’t need time to adapt to the league’s style of play, which is crucial given the club’s ambitions to challenge for the title.

The 28-year-old’s leadership qualities and work ethic would make him a valuable addition to the Rangers dressing room.

His determination and professionalism would set a good example for the younger players, and his experience at the international level with Scotland would bring valuable insights to the team.

There is a gulf between Gers and Celtic and signing Shankland would significantly reduce it, which is what Clement wants.
