After Saturday night’s resounding 4-0 win over DC United in Washington, Celtic are travelling south to North Carolina for a tougher pre-season test.

Goals from Matt O’Riley, Mikey Johnston and James Forrest punished the MLS side at Audi Field. Brendan Rodgers was left very impressed with the attitude and application of his team.

The Scottish champions now face off against English champions Manchester City on Tuesday night which makes for a tasty encounter even though it’s just a friendly.

They await at the Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill. Extensive work has taken place at the arena to prepare for the fixture, including relaying the entire pitch to a natural grass surface.

Man City’s squad won’t be a full strength due to many of their stars making an extended run at Euro 2024 and the Copa America, but there are some big names expected to be involved.

Man City’s travelling squad for Celtic fixture

The English side have confirmed the players who have travelled for the first leg of their USA tour with striker Erling Haaland and midfielder Jack Grealish included.

The full squad is: Kalvin Phillips, Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish, Stefan Ortega Moreno, Ederson, Maximo Perrone, Scott Carson, Oscar Bobb, Jacob Wright, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, Jadel Katongo, Joel Ndala, Tom Galvez, Nico O’Reilly, Mahamadou Susoho, Justin Oboavwoduo, Luke Mbete, Jaden Heskey, Rico Lewis, Callum Doyle, James McAtee, Amar Fatah, Stephen Mfuni, Micah Hamilton, Lakyle Samuel, Ben Knight, Josh Wilson-Esbrand.

More of their major stars such as Phil Foden and Rodri will join the City camp as they progress through the summer but the above list gives a good indication of who’s training in the build-up to facing Celtic.

City are a couple of weeks behind the Bhoys in their preparations so there will be a blend of youth and experience in Pep Guardiola’s team with many substitutions throughout.

Brendan Rodgers will nonetheless be keen to test his outfit against some quality talent as Celtic work towards the start of the Scottish Premiership and a new-look UEFA Champions League.
