The £15m transfer blueprint Celtic have mastered that can leave Rangers in their dust for ‘years to come’

Celtic have already proved they can land £15m players for less than half that price – and if they can do that again in this transfer window, then Rangers face YEARS in the cold.

That’s the view of former Hoop Johan Mjallby who reckons Brendan Rodgers will already be looking for the next Jota or Cameron Carter-Vickers. Buying low and selling high is the reality of it at any club outside of Europe’s elite and while Celtic aren’t quiet at Benfica or Ajax’s level when it comes to transfer profit, they have made a relative killing of their own.

Jota was sold for £25m just a year after signing permanently for £6m, while Moussa Dembele, Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer are among those who have been signed for a snip and sold for big bucks. Matt O’Riley could well be the next one along that pipeline, with Southampton reportedly ready to shatter the Scottish transfer record for the Dane.

Rodgers is yet to land any new outfield players this summer, but talks are ongoing over Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah. They’ve also been linked with USA midfielder Tanner Tessmann and it seems likely it won’t be long before they start splashing major cash.

They might not need to though as Mjallby reckons that by buying smart, they can land players other clubs might shell out £15m on for as little as £6m – the same price they paid to bring Jota to the club permanently. And if they can channel that aptitude for landing a bargain this summer, Rangers are in trouble.

Mjallby told the Sunday Post: “There are five or six weeks of the window still to go and I expect some really good reinforcements to be added. I’ve no idea what the transfer budget is for players this summer but I would expect it to be a really healthy one.

“It could well be Brendan is able to look at the market for players in the region of £6 or £7million. When you think the club signed Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota for that kind of money then you know the quality that’s out there.

“Also, I think that players in that price range are not too different from some players at £15million. But winning titles and trophies must never be taken for granted. That’s why more new signings are required.

“Celtic will want to build on the success of the last three seasons and make sure Rangers don’t get anywhere near another title for years to come.”
