Trabzonspor have sent a formal proposal to Rangers about the signing of James Tavernier, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer journalist reported via his personal X account [18 July] that the Turkish side are interested in the Gers right-back this summer.

Tavernier has been heavily linked with an Ibrox exit, with Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq appearing as potential suitors for him and Connor Goldson at the beginning of the summer transfer window [HITC].

Rangers receive formal proposal for James Tavernier transfer

Despite being 32 years of age, Tavernier still has a lot of life left in his legs after making 38 appearances in the Scottish Premiership last season.

The full-back will go down as a legend at Ibrox, having made 460 appearances for the club since arriving from Wigan in 2015, going on to score 125 goals in all competitions.

Tavernier still has what it takes to be a good leader on the pitch, taking pride in wearing the captain’s armband, but he could be a victim of Philippe Clement’s rebuild this summer.

The Belgian is currently adapting his squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, with the hope of pipping Old Firm rivals Celtic to the league title next term.

He has already added Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Clinton Nsiala, Hamza Igamane, Liam Kelly and Connor Barron to the squad, but there are likely more deals to come over the summer.

Tavernier’s exit could certainly help fund some more permanent transfers as Clement looks to bring in new players to fit his style of play, with the squad mainly consisting of Michael Beale signings.

The same was hoped of Cyriel Dessers, who has been linked with a move away this summer, though it looks more likely that he will stay at Ibrox following his recent comments [Ziggo Sport].

Trabzonspor’s interest in the 32-year-old is certainly a deal to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
