Tommy Conway Rangers transfer endorsement as Scotland striker ‘ticks all the boxes’

The Bristol City frontman has been loosely linked with both sides of the Old Firm in the past

Tommy Conway would be an ideal Rangers transfer target as he fits their recruitment profile, reckons Derek Ferguson.

The Scotland striker, who made his senior debut in the Euro 2024 warm-up game against Finland before not making it off the bench in Germany, has been on fire for Bristol City and linked with a move away. Out of contract next summer, the 21-year-old will be free to talk to interested clubs about a Bosman move in a matter of months.

The Ibrox side and Celtic have both been linked in the past, while plenty of other clubs down south could also be in the mix. The advantage Scotland’s big two would have over them is that they would only be required to pay around £300,000 in cross-border compensation, while English sides would have to shell out considerably more.

Former Gers midfielder Ferguson is a fan of Conway and reckons he could have an impact. On top of that, he’s one they could make money on down the line, which fits the plans for a player trading model.

The pundit told Ibrox News: “Aye he’s a good player isn’t he the boy? He’s 21, I don’t know exactly what the fee would be, but he ticks all the boxes in terms of what Rangers [are looking for], how their recruitment is going. Bring them in, younger guys, make them better, then can we sell them on?

“Listen, he’s a talented boy in the Scotland Under-21s and you don’t make the Euros if you’re not a good player so what you can see is there’s a lot to work with there and a lot to improve. I think under our current manager he would do that.”
