Al Ittihad have opened talks over a deal for Aston Villa star Moussa Diaby, sources have told Football Insider.
The Saudi club are preparing what sources say is a “huge” offer for the France international, which would secure Villa a significant profit on the wide forward.
Al Ittihad have been working in the background on a deal for the 25-year-old for many weeks, and the club is now one step closer to making it a reality.
Diaby is believed to be open to what would be considered a shock transfer, given his status at Villa Park as well as his relative youth.
The winger only joined the Premier League side last summer from Bayer Leverkusen on a deal worth £51.9million.
He was a regular under Unai Emery in his debut season at Villa, making a big impact as the side secured Champions League football for the upcoming campaign.
Al Ittihad signing Moussa Diaby would be a blow to Villa
Diaby played in every single Premier League game last season, scoring six goals and providing eight assists.
Losing him would be a blow to Villa ahead of the new season due to how heavily Emery relied upon him.
With the 25-year-old under contract until 2028, Villa are in a strong position to command a significant fee for his services.
Villa have been active in this transfer window so far, and Football Insider revealed that Jaden Philogene is undergoing a medical at the club after agreeing on a five-year deal.
The young winger could be seen as a replacement for Diaby, providing width to Emery’s team should he sign.
