Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi had his wedding broadcast live on Romanian TV, with media going mad for the Gers star’s big day.
The TV rights reportedly cost broadcaster Direct around £200,000, with Romanian journalist Emanuel Rosu noting on X it was Romania’s “final” – and a bigger national event than the Euro 2024 showpiece between England and Spain.
Hagi was marrying his long-term partner back home, having been given some time off between his Euro 2024 commitments ending and returning for pre-season at Ibrox.
Rosu also shared some TV pictures of the ceremony with an accompanying caption: “We have our final in Romania today. Ianis Hagi is getting married.”
Ianis Hagi linked with move away from Rangers
Hagi is expected to leave Rangers by the end of the summer, having spent the 2023-24 campaign out on loan.
Hagi’s agent even offered to use his own money to secure a transfer [Adevarul, July 10]. There is interest from multiple European clubs, and preliminary talks have been held.
Hagi, who has made 99 appearances for Rangers with 16 goals and 21 assists, spent last season at Spanish club Alaves.
Despite his contract running until 2026, he is seen as surplus to requirements at Ibrox. His performances at the European Championships, where he played in all four of Romania’s games, have boosted his profile, making a summer move more likely.
Hopefully Hagi enjoyed his big day, which appeared to be watched by millions back home, but he will no doubt also now be thinking about what the future holds in terms of his career.
Whether or not that is at Ibrox, we will soon get confirmation either way.
