Steve Cooper will lead an evolution rather than a revolution at Leicester City with the new boss keen to build on the club’s foundations.
Cooper is the man tasked with guiding City into the Premier League after taking over from Championship-winning boss Enzo Maresca. But after success last year, he’s not going to rip up the blueprint.
That’s the verdict from Conor Coady after a week of working with the new manager in pre-season training. The City centre-back says Cooper wants to put his own mark on City’s style without starting afresh.
“My first impressions of the new gaffer and the coaching staff have been brilliant,” Coady told the club. “We’re working on a lot of new stuff under the new manager. It’s been great to listen to his ideas and the way he wants to play.
“It’s important to know that he doesn’t want to change a massive amount, but he wants to put his own stamp on it. We just want to kick on now.”
For Coady, it’s not the first time working with Cooper. In one of his first roles in football, Cooper spent five years working across various age groups in Liverpool’s academy, eventually coaching the Under-18s for a year before his move into the FA set-up. The manager’s time on Merseyside coincided with Coady’s rise through the ranks at Liverpool.
“He’s a real hands-on manager,” the defender added. “He’s somebody who wants to talk to the lads constantly. He’s always around the boys.
“I’ve known him previously from my time when I was growing up at Liverpool. His love for the game is so intense when you go out there and you can see it resonates with the players with how he comes across in training. He’s been brilliant.”
